When it comes to using ChatGPT, one of the most important lessons we learned is that expertise and process are key. To illustrate this, let's use a flow chart: first, ask yourself if you have a good understanding of the task at hand and a solid process for tackling it. If the answer is yes, then you're in good shape. You can use ChatGPT to generate ideas and content, and then guide, iterate, refine and enhance its output to achieve your goals.
However, if you don't have the necessary knowledge or process in place, don't despair. ChatGPT can actually help you learn and improve your skills, allowing you to push forward and overcome any obstacles in your way. With patience and persistence, you can still use ChatGPT.
But if you're not willing to put in the effort to learn and improve, then you run the risk of falling into a dangerous trap. Without the ability to guide, iterate, refine and enhance ChatGPT's output, you won't be able to get the results you're looking for.
Summary:
Do I have a good process and knowledge (real world) for the task I’m attempting? If so: You’re good. You can guide, iterate, refine and enhance
ChatGPT’s output.
If not, am I willing to learn? (ChatGPT can help!). Then also, push on!
If not: DANGER. You can’t guide, iterate, refine and enhance ChatGPT’s output.
